To improve drivers’ understanding of their legal responsibilities, licensing requirements, and the consequences of non-compliance in their professional roles.
Overview
This essential module provides professional drivers with a clear and practical understanding of the legal requirements surrounding driver licensing, testing, and qualifications. Through trainer-led presentations, interactive discussions, and scenario-based learning, drivers will explore key topics including licence categories, medical and renewal obligations, Traffic Commissioner oversight, and alternative professional driver qualifications.
By demystifying common areas of confusion and reinforcing recent legal changes, this course ensures drivers remain compliant, informed, and confident in their legal duties on and off the road.
Key Learning Outcomes
• Understand which vehicles can legally be driven under different licence categories.
• Explain the key stages of the LGV/PCV driving test process.
• Identify when and how to report changes in circumstances to the DVLA.
• Describe the role and powers of the Traffic Commissioner in relation to drivers and operators.
