First Aid Awareness

Suitable for LGV, PCV & Taxi Drivers

Aim

To ensure professional drivers have a clear awareness of First Aid principles, enabling them to respond appropriately and confidently to common medical emergencies they may encounter at work.

Overview

This engaging Driver CPC module provides drivers with a practical awareness of First Aid, focusing on the type of scenarios they are most likely to face on the road. Using trainer-led discussions, real-life case studies, and transport-specific video content, the course covers how to assess a situation, provide initial care, and seek further medical help.

Drivers will learn the basics of first response, including the Primary Survey (DR ABC), managing an unresponsive casualty, using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and dealing with common injuries such as bleeding, burns, shock, and choking. The session also highlights the importance of infection control and gaining consent before offering help.

Key Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, delegates will:

    •    Understand how to conduct a Primary and Secondary Survey.

    •    Know how to place a casualty in the Recovery Position.

    •    Be able to explain the steps of performing CPR.

    •    Have an awareness of how to use an AED safely.

    •    Understand how to manage a range of simple injuries including severe bleeding, burns, shock, and choking.

    •    Recognise the importance of infection control and casualty consent when offering First Aid.

Delivery is via a blend of:

    •    Trainer-led presentations

    •    Transport-specific video content

    •    Facilitated group discussions

    •    Scenario-based questioning

    •    Interactive group quiz to consolidate learning

End-of-Module Assessment

The course concludes with an engaging group quiz designed to reinforce key learning points and check delegate understanding.
